After spending the summer patiently sitting on the reserve list, we’ve finally been given the nod and plucked straight into the show plan. That means we’ll be proudly setting up shop right at the heart of the action, for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend.
“It’s always such a special event and the perfect way to round off the season,” says Dawn Kennedy, our Secretary & Event Organiser. “The ADO16 was a car that genuinely appealed to everyone, and we can’t wait to share that story with visitors in November. It’s also a wonderful chance to meet so many of our members, friends, and followers in person—we’re really looking forward to welcoming people to Hall 3, Stand 105.”

A Celebration Like No Other

This Year’s Theme: Best of Both Worlds
Every year, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show brings us all together under a unifying theme—and for 2025, that theme is “Best of Both Worlds.”
For us, it couldn’t be more fitting. The ADO16 was designed as a car for everyone—whether your purse was modest or more generous, there was an Austin, Morris, MG, Riley, Wolseley or Vanden Plas version to suit. From no-nonsense family runabouts to plush leather-seated luxury, the range truly offered something for every taste and every budget.
“That’s what makes it so special,” adds Steve, who’s helped man our NEC stands before. “It didn’t matter who you were, there was an ADO16 for you. And that’s the story we love to tell—it was a car for every wallet, and in many ways, it still is.”
We’re still shaping exactly how we’ll reflect the theme on our stand this year, but with a carefully chosen two-car display, we’ll be celebrating that accessibility and versatility—the very reasons the ADO16 captured so many hearts in period, and why it still resonates with enthusiasts today.
Why It Matters
It’s easy to forget sometimes that the ADO16 was more than a car—it was a cultural moment. The best-selling car of the 1960s, a design triumph of Alec Issigonis and Pininfarina, and a family of models that meant something to almost every household in Britain at one time or another.
That broad appeal—the fact that you could buy into the same basic design whether you wanted simple practicality or wood-and-leather luxury—was what made the ADO16 so special. It was a car that worked for every wallet, and that democratic spirit is part of why it remains so fondly remembered today.
“I’ve lost count of how many people stop and say, ‘My dad had one of those!’” says Emily, who’s helped welcome visitors to our stand in past years. “You can see the memories flood back instantly. It’s not just about cars—it’s about people’s lives, families, and stories.”
